The Chairs of Bioprocess Engineering, Technical Biochemistry and Technical Biology presented catch plates from the TU Dortmund campus as well as a model of a sewage treatment plant at the summer festival.

Microorganisms are everywhere - and most of them are our friends!

With this slogan and the “proof” in the form of catch plates, the omnipresence of microorganisms and their usefulness was pointed out. Microorganisms not only play a major role in the production of numerous foods, such as sauerkraut, yoghurt, cheese, beer and wine, as well as in the production of food additives, such as flavor enhancers (glutamate) and preservatives (citric acid), but also in the purification of wastewater in modern sewage treatment plants. The model of an activated sludge and secondary clarifier was met with great interest by the visitors, who were happy to have the employees explain how it works.
