Biotechnological production of cannabinoids in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Cannabinoids are derived from the secondary metabolism of the plant Cannabis sativa. The biotechnological production of cannabinoids in a microbial host organism is a promising alternative for conventional production methods. In order to produce cannabinoids in a biotechnological process using a microbial host organism the enzymatic steps have to be integrated, analyzed and improved. This project focuses on the development and optimization of a whole cell process for the production of cannabinoids from simple carbon sources in S. cerevisiae.
